Three Good Woodworking Websites

Posted on June 18th, 2009 by admin in easy woodworking, woodwork projects | No Comments »

When I need some information fast, the first place I look is the Internet. It is a great resource for information on just about any subject. Three good websites for information on woodworking are doityourself.com, diynetwork.com, and fixya.com.

Doityourself.com provides help on many subjects, one of which is woodworking. The site contains an archive of how-to articles, videos, forums, products for sale, and information on how to find contractors. Besides woodworking, you can find information on many other topics, including electrical and lighting, painting, and going green. The site is intended to be a good first step for people who are looking to learn how to do a project. If you get started on a project and it proves to be too difficult, you can find a contractor on the site to finish it.

The website diynetwork.com has six main sections, one of which is Woodworking. The others are Home Improvement, Gardening & Landscaping, DIY on TV, Crafts, and Tools. The Woodworking section is rich with content, including Q&A articles on woodworking topics, photos, and instructional videos. It includes an index near the bottom of the page of the many different topics and projects on the site.

FixYa.com is a site specializing in getting help to consumers with different tools and electronic devices. Yaniv Bensadon, who saw the need because of manufacturers’ inability or unwillingness to help their buyers with problems, founded it. In relation to woodworking, it applies to tools such as routers, planers, and band saws. The user can e-mail other consumers with similar product problems, find a quick answer from the archive, or post a new question. You can also pay to get expert help from the site. It costs $9.99 for support by e-mail and $19.99 for electronic chat support. Other services of the site are that small business owners can pay to get customer leads and customer product reviews are posted.

These three websites are good resources for woodworkers. I believe they are examples of good uses of the Internet.
